NEW HOPE HISTORY AND DENOMINATION ...

HISTORY

New Hope opened in 1993.  We have had a significant impact in East County since then.  The church quickly grew and immediately had particular influence with the recovery community.  Sharing the Gospel with those who don’t know Jesus has been the focus since day one.  We spent about 14 years meeting in Antioch moved to Brentwood in 2007 and in 2019 moved back to Antioch.

THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH

New Hope is part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a denomination headquartered in Chicago.  There are about 150 ECC churches in California and our regional office is just west of us in Concord.

THE EVANGELICAL COVENANT CHURCH DESCRIBES ITSELF AS:

  • Evangelical, but not exclusive

  • Biblical, but not doctrinaire

  • Traditional, but not rigid

  • Congregational, but not independent

OUR ESSENTIAL BELIEFS ARE SUMMED UP IN SIX AFFIRMATIONS:

  • The centrality of the word of God

  • The necessity of new birth

  • A commitment to the whole mission of the Church

  • The Church as a fellowship of believers

  • A conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit

  • The reality of freedom in Christ
